Here I examine how features of an organization such as CEOs, managers, websites, and mission statements all influence perceptions of that organization and the culture it signals. These signals all have an impact on acquiring and retaining diverse talent.

STEM Participation & Performance

Science and Technology Class

Here I examine how approaches to math problem solving is rooted in how learning was socialized differentially to boys and girls. Further, I examine how much learning occurs informally or outside of school. Gaining experience learning informally fosters many long-term benefits for positively evaluating students' potential success. However, not everyone has equal access to informal learning at a young age.

Overcoming Challenges

Sponsored by 3M, I developed an intervention to increase the retention of women and underrepresented minorities in STEM. The STEM pathway is met with many challenges, but not every student has the resources to take those challenges on. By highlighting communal opportunities to help others and make an impact on the world with their STEM degree, we helped racially marginalized students manage setbacks and increase their commitment to entering the STEM workforce.
